According to cops, Beltre was seen talking to one or two people on the street prior to the shooting and apparently knew his killer.
Witnesses told cops there was no sign of an argument or impending violence before the killer pulled his gun and blasted Beltre.
Police were trying to collect surveillance video from nearly stores along Jerome Ave. as part of the investigation.
The killer fled from the murder scene and remained at large Thursday.
