City To Score Big With Super Bowl Charity Projects

Mayor Michael Bloomberg on Thursday announced a multi-million dollar donation from the National Football League and the New York-New Jersey Super Bowl Host Committee to be put towards charitable projects around the city.

Beneficiaries will include playgrounds, community centers, and schools in areas affected strongly by Sandy and other organizations in need.

A major partner in the donation is the Boys and Girls club, with the Kips Bay location receiving a brand new athletic training facility.

“The host committee and the NFL have contributed a million dollars each, so $ 2 million. Hopefully on the way to generating over $ 5 million of impact in the community. We’re proud of that, and we hope it will make a big difference for all of those areas that were struck very hard by Hurricane Sandy,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.

“The projects will be great for communities in all five boroughs, in particular for young people who look up to NFL players. And each project will have an impact that lasts long after the clock expires at the Super Bowl,” said Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The Super Bowl will be played at Metlife Stadium in New Jersey on February 2, with a week of special events leading up to the big game.
