Cousin charged in gruesome murder of ‘Baby Hope’

Police have charged a relative tied to the gruesome death of “Baby Hope” more than two decades after the little girl’s body was found stuffed in a cooler near Henry Hudson Parkway, police sources said on Saturday.

Sources would not immediately reveal the name of the suspect but police Commissioner Ray Kelly may announce it at a 5:30 p.m. press conference, sources said.

The break in the case comes after cops tracked down the dead child’s mother in Washington Heights with the help of a tipster who knew Baby Hope’s sister , police sources said.

Baby Hope, who’s real name was Angelica Ramirez, was three or four years old when her body was discovered in a dirty cooler full of soda cans on a summer day in 1991.

The child’s mom, who is a Mexican immigrant, told police she had long suspected the dad was responsible for the child’s death but was too afraid of him to come forward because he was abusive.

The sister, now in her 20s, told police she remembers traveling to Mexico with her father after leaving Angelica with her mother, police sources said.

She said she never saw her sibling again after the trip.

Cops have for decades sent out fliers on the anniversary of Baby Hope’s death, complete with a sketch of the child. One of the fliers prompted the tipster to come forward, police sources said.
