De Blasio vows to ‘immediately’ review Bloomberg’s decisions

Bill de Blasio said Monday that if elected, he would “immediately” review — and possibly reverse — all decisions Mayor Bloomberg makes in his last months in office.

“The mayor is rushing to put a lot of things in place, and we’re going to review everything,” de Blasio said at the Columbus Day Parade. “If the people choose me, we’re going to review everything immediately upon taking office.”

His comments followed word that the city Department of Education is giving the green light to open or expand 23 charter schools and provide them with free space in city buildings.

De Blasio has vowed to impose a moratorium on locating charter schools in city facilities.

The mayoral front-runner indicated he also objects to other Bloomberg moves.

“Some of the things he’s been rushing I know, like the NYCHA infill development plan, I know are counterproductive,” he said, referring to the New York City Housing Authority plan to lease some of its land to private developers.

Projects already in the pipeline will be hard to stop, City Hall veterans say.

“It’s hard to untangle things because usually, they’re done in a way that you end up pulling out a lot of thread with it,” said a former Bloomberg administration official.

Reversing Bloomberg’s charter-school move would create problems for de Blasio, the ex-official noted.

“If you cancel a bunch of charter-school leases, you have a bunch of kids who are going to be flooding your [regular] schools. That’s going to be a problem not just for charter parents but for parents in the DOE schools,” the former official said

That official, however, noted that as mayor, Bloomberg managed to quash an 11th-hour attempt by the Giuliani administration to give the Mets and Yankees new stadiums.

“Bloomberg was able to cancel some stuff, like the deals on the stadium,” the ex-official said. “But that stuff was done haphazardly at the last minute and announced in the last month of the administration.

“You can’t go back on a contract, but you can go back on a non-baked deal.”

The mayor’s office declined to comment.
