Duck-hunter drowns at upstate park

A duck-hunter from Manhattan drowned at an upstate park, officials said Monday night.

Marion Buttigieg, 20, was hunting with his brother and some friends Saturday when he perished in a swamp in Stewart State Forest in Orange County, said Department of Environmental Conservation spokeswoman Lisa King.

Police found his body after his brother alerted authorities that he was missing, the spokesperson said.

A group of hunting enthusiasts remembered Buttigieg Monday night on the Web site Ducks Unlimited.

“We are so very sorry to lose you so young,” wrote Kevin Attard. “Every time a duck soars, you will be remembered.”

His brother, Kevin Buttigieg, wrote about the Hudson Valley tragedy on Facebook.

“Me and my family would like to thank you all for the thoughts and encouragement in these rough and sad times,” he wrote.

“We lost a great person, a best friend to me.”

Buttigieg, who hailed from the island nation of Malta, was attending the New York City College of Technology.
