The Steelers bring Geno Smith back to earth, sacking the Jets rookie three times.
Hold off on those playoff projections.
A week after Geno Smith led the Jets to victory against the Atlanta Falcons, the Jets barely gave him a chance to beat one of the league’s worst teams. Smith didn’t live up to the hype off of the thrilling win six days prior, as the Jets fell to the Steelers 19-6. The Jets drop to 3-3, and will head into it’s marquee matchup against New England next Sunday down at least one game in the division.

Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders smokes Antonio Cromartie for a 55-yard TD.
Marty Mornhinweg called an uncharacteristically conservative game plan, giving Smith few chances to take deep shots or give make a play early on. When Smith finally began airing it out once the Jets fell behind, the attempts mostly fell flat, as the rookie QB finished an underwhelming 19-for-34 with 201 yards and two interceptions.
In a game when the Steelers looked largely unimpressive. Antonio Cromartie allowed a game-changing 55-yard touchdown to Antonio Brown.
The Steelers led 9-6 at halftime after the Jets had brought in the reins on the playcalling in the first half. In the first quarter, Ryan elected to just kick a field goal on 4th and 1 from the two-yard line.

Jets receiver Stephen Hill has his bell rung by Steelers safety Troy Polamalu.
With 12:39 left in the third, Antonio Cromartie made the most costly error of the game. The Jets top corner, matched up one-on-one with Emmanuel Sanders, bit hard on a quick move by the receiver and was completely burned as Sanders ran downfield, catching a 55-yard touchdown. That long play put the Jets in a 16-6 hole. Because of all the Steelers fans in attendance — and plethora of Terrible Towels in the air — MetLife Stadium resembled Heinz Field after the score.
While Smith tried to respond as the Jets began to open up their game plan, the rookie QB made a bad mistake. Smith attempted to throw the ball to Konrad Reuland in triple coverage, a terrible decision in it’s own right, but also overthrew him, and was picked off by Ryan Clark on the one-yard line. It was the first turnover the Steelers had caused all season.
With 12:09 left in the game, the Steelers extended the lead to 13 on a field goal, but it could have been worse for Gang Green. Ben Roethlisberger had a first and goal at the two-yard line but the Jets held strong.
With 2:59 remaining, Smith finished off any hope the Jets had of getting back into the game. The quarterback forcing a throw, while anticipating a hit by his draft-classmate Jarvis Jones, which went straight to LB Lawrence Timmons.
