October 10: Communism, racism and program interruptions

De Blasio, American Communist

Brooklyn: To the right-wing kooks whining that Bill de Blasio is a communist: Will you grow up and try to make your argument using facts and honesty?

You keep telling us “liberal” is a dirty word, but it means “liberty.” If you hate liberty, then you probably should move out of America, don’t you think, instead of trying to turn us into West Iran — a religious-based, ultra-conservative nation that hates equality and civil rights.

As for “communism,” that’s another good word you spun into a negative. Show me the Republican in America who says Communism is bad and wants all streets, roads and highways to be for-profit operations, with toll booths. Maybe everyone should pay admission to Central Park? And let’s open the police and fire departments to “competition” while we’re at it.

Show me just one person who doesn’t love America’s communism. Milton Katzis

The price of politics

New Milford, N.J.: I am deeply ashamed of this country (“Satisfied? Heroes’ kin slam callous D.C. shutdown,” Oct. 9). How can the government cut benefits for our soldiers who fight and die to keep us safe? How can members of Congress sleep at night? Have they no conscience ?Stan Newman

Very rhetorical question

Manchester, N.J.: I lay responsibility for the callous and heartless way our military dead and their families are being treated squarely at the feet of President Obama, not the Republicans. There have been other instances of his administration ordering park rangers and others to inflict maximum inconvenience and hurt on the American public, such as at the World War II Memorial. One park ranger was quoted saying, “It is disgusting.” Is Obama really respectful, caring and protective of the American people, or is he just after raw political power? Maria Damato

No justice for run-down biker

Whitestone: I have a question about the bikers’ attack on Alexian Lien: Why hasn’t Lien also been arrested? From the information that has been reported, he intentionally ran his SUV over a biker — on foot at the time — who had his back to Lien. The biker was seriously injured and will probably be paralyzed for life. Lien said he was afraid for his family. Not good enough. Arrest Lien. That’s justice.

The Zimmerman of road rage

Brooklyn: Since when is it okay to use deadly force whenever you feel “threatened”? His family was in the car, I understand, but nothing those bikers did rose to the level of crushing someone under an SUV. And what exactly did he think was going to happen to him after he ran over three of their friends? What is he, the George Zimmerman of road rage? He needs to be charged just like they were.
