Police: Man Attacked Cab Driver, Slashed Tires Over Fare

Police are investigating a violent attack on a cab driver in the Bronx.

They say a man caught on surveillance video at a convenience store was picked up by a yellow taxi at Delancey and Ludlow Streets in Manhattan around 2 a.m. Saturday.

Upon arriving in Mount Hope, police say the man told the driver it was the wrong location.

The driver asked to be paid and said he would take the suspect to the right place.

Police say the suspect threw money at the driver then punched him in the face and got out of the car.

They say the man then broke some of the taxi’s windows, slashed the driver on the wrist and back with a box cutter, and took back his money.

He also slashed the taxi’s two front tires.

The suspect is described as being in his 20s, 5’9″ tall, and weighing around 180 pounds.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
