An undercover off-duty detective has been arrested in connection with the violent road rage incident on September 29 involving motorcycles and an SUV.
According to law enforcement sources, officers were scrutinizing video because they believe they saw the detective pounding the SUV with his hands.
The detectives’ union initially said the officer saw others hit the vehicle but didn’t do it himself and had no part in attacking the driver.
Meanwhile, another biker, 29-year-old Craig Wright of Brooklyn, has been arraigned on charges that include gang assault and unlawful imprisonment.
The district attorney’s office says that Wright is seen on video attacking SUV driver Alexian Lien.
NY1 spoke with Wright’s mother outside court.
Wright’s mother: Never been arrested.
Q: Never been arrested, what kind of person is he? If you wouldn’t mind, because some have said they’re gang members.
Wright’s mother: My son has never been in a gang.
Q: And how do you feel that this is…
Wright’s mother: I have no further comment.
“As I said, Mr. Wright is a longtime, is a New York resident,” said Mitchell Elman, Wright’s attorney. “He has no criminal record, and like anything else, there should be no rush to judgment with respect to his actions. And at this point, we have no further comment.”
Police, meanwhile, have issued new photos of bikers they’d like to speak with.
Lien was pulled out of his Range Rover in Washington Heights during an altercation that started on the West Side Highway and led Lien to drive over one of the bikers.
His wife and child were in the SUV with him but were not hurt.
Three other men have been arrested and charged in the case.
