Changes are coming to the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge in the wake of several deadly accidents on one of its exit ramps.
Starting Monday, the Queens-bound outer roadway will be closed from 9 p.m. through 6 a.m.
The Department of Transportation says that during that time, the lane is underused.
It hopes that closing the outer roadway every night will reduce speeding and other unsafe night time driving.
The change comes two weeks after an off–duty officer lost control of her Ford Focus while driving off the exit ramp.
Elisa Toro’s car bounced off a guard rail, struck a cement barrier, then flipped over and crashed into a storefront.
The 36-year-old mother of two, who lived in the Bronx, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In 2011, at the same spot, an alleged drunk driver killed a pedestrian.
A week-and-a-half later another driver lost control and was killed.
The following year a taxi driver plowed into scaffolding at the same location.
