An honorary rep for the El Salavador Consulate was arrested Sunday after he trained an “assault rifle” on his live-in girlfriend during a nasty squabble in their posh Fifth Avenue condo, police sources said.
Guillermo Rossell, 33, got into a heated argument with Lina Velasquez, 30, in their 29th floor apartment in the Olympic Towers at 641 Fifth Avenue around 11 p.m., sources said.
Rossell, who also owns a Manhattan-based jewelry business, allegedly became so irate that he pinned Velasquez against a wall, picked up the rifle and pointed it at her face.
A frightened Velasquez was able to break free and call 911, sources said.
Rossell told responding cops that Velasquez was “throwing stuff at me” and “acting crazy” so he defended himself, sources said.
Police found several more licensed guns in the apartment, sources said.
Rossell was arrested on charges of assault and menacing.
He claimed to cops that he was a diplomat, according to sources, but the Consulate’s web site only lists him as an “honorary consul.”
The uber-rich Rossell wore Gucci slippers at his arraignment Tuesday in Manhattan Criminal Court and was released without bail.
His sister showed up at the court proceedings and shouted at a Post reporter, “He’s not married to that whore!,” referring to Velasquez.
“My client doesn’t want to litigate this matter in the press. We’re confident when all the facts are presented in the appropriate forum, he’ll be vindicated,” said defense lawyer Samantha Kantor.
