The driver stayed on scene and there was no apparent criminality, say the cops.
A 49-year-old man was hit and killed as he tried to cross the Major Deegan Expy. near Yankee Stadium early Sunday morning, police said.
Darnell Carter, a native of Melrose, was hit as he tried to cross the divider from the northbound lane to the southbound lane near exit 5 at 12:27 a.m., police said.

Carter was hit by a Toyota Rav 4 that was headin gsouth on the busy highway. The driver stayed on scene and there was no apparent criminality, police said.
