Giving the diplomatic middle finger to the U.S., Iran tried to assign a fellow named Hamid Aboutalebi to its UN mission in New York. Washington is now rightly refusing him a visa — because Aboutalebi was part of the gang that commandeered the American Embassy in Tehran and held 52 hostages for 444 days. He claims he was only a translator, which makes us wonder what the translation of “Death to America” is.
Iran, run by a president who claims to be moderate, has a foreign ministry full of envoys; they can pick someone else. Blindfolded and bound prisoners must not be forgotten.
