It was an escape Caesar himself would be proud of.
Chimpanzees have reportedly escaped their enclosures at the Kansas City Zoo creating a scene perhaps reminiscent of one from the film, “Planet of the Apes.”
A wide-spread hunt for the wild animals is said to be currently underway but confined to a behind-the-scenes area inside the since shuttered zoo, KSHB reports.
Zoo officials say they are working to determine exactly how many chimps have escaped.
A zoo representative was not immediately available for comment, but the Kansas City police were ready to chime in on the excitement.
In a video tweeted to the zoo around 6 p.m., the police department shared a hilarious video of a 300 lb chimp seen attacking a Kansas City police car in 2010 with background music from none other than the hit 60s band, “The Monkees.”
“Best of luck to @KansasCityZoo staff corralling (sic) chimps!” they tweeted them. “We know 1st-hand it’s a dangerous situation.”
The wild chimp filmed by the police department was described as a pet that escaped before attacking a patrol car. It was eventually captured without injuries.
