After five years of lighting up the sky over the Hudson River, the 38th annual Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks show will move back to the East River this summer.
Macy’s and City Hall made the official announcement Monday.
The show moved west in 2009 to mark the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s trip up the river, and has stayed there ever since.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has been a big supporter of moving the show back to the East River, and urged Macy’s to do so when he was public advocate.
The show will also reportedly move back and forth between the two rivers in the future.
