President Barack Obama is in the city today to speak at the National Action Network convention in Midtown, meaning New Yorkers can expect street closures and traffic problems in the area.
He’s not scheduled to leave the city until 11:30 p.m., but there’s been no official announcement about his evening plans.
During his speech, the president focused on recent challenges to the 1965 Voting Rights Act, and his concern over Republican measures in some states that make it more difficult for Americans to vote.
Yesterday, the president marked the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act at the Presidential Library of Lyndon Johnson, who signed the Act in 1964.
