New Yorkers Head To Stores For Last-Minute Shopping

The time has come for procrastinators to finish up their Christmas shopping.

At the Staten Island Mall on Christmas Eve, residents were out early to find some last-minute gifts before the mall closes at 6 p.m.

David Albertson of the Staten Island Mall said some retailers have a large inventory they want to get rid of before Christmas, which can prompt big deals.

“Well today’s one of those days that if you have a Christmas list and you realize you may have forgotten the aunt, the uncle, or even a co-worker, majority of people are going to come in today to get that last-minute gift,” said Albertson.

Albertson also said some people are too busy with work to shop before Christmas Eve, but some come out because of the thrill.

“Sometimes, it’s the rush. It’s the adrenaline to come in for the last-minute purchase,” Albertson said.
