BOROUGH Hall is due for a greening.
The 166-year-old marble behemoth could one day boast environmentally friendly features such as geothermal and solar power, Borough President Eric Adams said Monday.
He promised to pursue the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design status — a benchmark for green standards in building — for Borough Hall.
“We want to lead by example, and that’s L-E-E-D by example,” Adams said.
Sounds great, though for now it’s really more of an open-ended idea. Adams has no specific work plan, timetable or budget for the project.
Plans for greening Brooklyn’s oldest public building would begin with his newly launched Renewable and Sustainable Energy Task Force — or ReSET, Adams said.
The committee met on Monday in a private session closed to the public.
An energy-efficient Borough Hall is the latest of Adams’ plans to spruce up his new digs.
He pledged $ 1 million toward repairing the crumbling bluestone sidewalks outside. He also recently promised to work with the Parks Department to fix the iconic Borough Hall clock, which has been stuck at 2:41 for at least five months.
