The next day, he allegedly broke into a woman’s apartment and assaulted her.

He was a real NYPD poster boy.

A hero officer hailed as a courageous cop wound up drunken and disgraced on an NYPD “Wanted” bulletin just a day later, the Daily News has learned.

Cops investigating a Bronx woman’s claim that a sloshed, nearly-naked man burst into her apartment and beat her June 11 had assembled a wanted poster of the perp — all without realizing the bleary-eyed man caught on surveillance camera was one of their own.

The poster shows a dazed, shirtless Eugene Donnelly staring into a camera at the Woodlawn apartment building where he allegedly ended a night of celebrating by breaking into the woman’s home, apparently believing it was his friend’s apartment.

The four-year cop was all smiles June 10 as he accepted an award for a May 2012 off-duty incident in which he shot and arrested a gunman who fired at him.

But he apparently partied too hard that night. He crashed at a friend’s apartment early June 11 and at some point, police sources said, left the apartment clad only in black boxer briefs.

Cops were looking for this man until they realized he was one of their own. The discovery was made before the poster was put out, sources said.Cops were looking for this man until they realized he was one of their own. The discovery was made before the poster was put out, sources said.

When he returned at 5:30 a.m. he wound up in another apartment on the same floor. The startled woman who lives there accused Donnelly of roughing her up.

He fled, and when police arrived the attacker’s identity was unknown. According to the “Wanted for Home Invasion” poster, the suspect threw the victim to the floor and began punching her on the face and head. ”

At some point before the poster was put out, sources said, investigators realized the suspect was a cop.

Donnelly was placed on modified assignment and is under investigation by both the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau and the Bronx district attorney’s office.
