New Yorkers show support at Celebrate Israel, Queens Pride parades


Thousands of New Yorkers and dignitaries declared their support for Israel Sunday at the Celebrate Israel Parade along Fifth Ave.


Knesset member Rabbi Dov Lipman, one of the grand marshals, was one of seven members of the Israeli legislature who traveled to New York to attend.

“We live in a world where sometimes we feel isolated,” he said. “To see tens of thousands of people coming to our side, it was worth it to fly over the ocean.”

Gov. Cuomo, Mayor de Blasio, and Sen. Chuck Schumer were among the slew of pols who marched. “The Jewish community is very important to us in New York,” Cuomo said. “Israel is also a very important ally to this country.”

Meanwhile in Jackson Heights, the rainbow flag flew for the Queens Pride Parade.


“It is, in numbers, the second largest pride parade in the city – but in spirit, it’s tied for first,” Mayor de Blasio told the crowd. He hailed the growing number of states that have legalized gay marriage. “Equality is spreading like wild fire across this country.”
