Senator Charles Schumer is calling for more extensive background checks for those who work with children to screen for sexual predators.
Two weeks ago, a massive child pornography bust across multiple states led to 70 arrests, including 23 arrested in Queens.
Among those involved: a little league baseball coach and a Boy Scout leader.
Schumer proposes giving similar organizations such as summer camps, day care centers, and children’s charities access to FBI background checks.
Under current law, most organizations can only access New York state databases.
Schumer says only the FBI can provide the most accurate and up-to-date records.
