Woman helps NYPD cop arrest Brooklyn counterfeiter

A Brooklyn bandit needed his scalp stapled after a good Samaritan rendered an officer assistance and smacked the thug in the head with the cop’s baton.

The drama began just before 1p.m. Friday when workers at a Payless shoe store at the Fulton Mall stopped Shakhawat Hossain, 21, with counterfeit $ 10 bills, police said.

Hossain had used the funny money to buy two pairs of shoes and two pairs of boots at the store earlier this month, officials said.

An alert clerk called the cops as Hossain left the store. When the officer asked to see his ID, the suspect allegedly pulled out a wallet stuffed with 36 bogus bills.

The cop tried to handcuff Hossain, but he took off.

The 39-year-old good Samaritan, whose name was not released, witnessed the chase and swung her purse at Hossain but missed him, cops said. The fleet-footed cop soon caught up with Hossain, who continued to put up a fight, police said.

When the cop and alleged counterfeiter tumbled to the sidewalk, the woman took matters — and the cop’s fallen baton — into her own hands.

“She said she saw the (suspect) reaching for the officer’s gun, so she picked up the stick and hit him with it,” a police source said.

The woman’s blow to Hossain’s head allowed the cop to subdue the struggling suspect, who was treated at Brooklyn Hospital Center.
