On Thursday morning, NY1 got a rare look inside NYPD crime and counterterrorism meetings that are usually held behind closed doors.
The first was a CompStat meeting, part of a program that focuses on crime numbers in specific neighborhoods.
Commissioner William Bratton started it 20 years ago when he first ran the NYPD.
Today was the first meeting run by new Chief of Department James O’Neill, who made it clear commanders better have a handle on their statistics.
“I’m gonna hold the precinct commander absolutely 100 percent accountable for what goes on in that job. And the precinct commander better be as well informed about narco operations, gang operations and detective bureau operations as the other executives and other supervisors that are up there with him,” said NYPD Chief of Department James O’Neill.
Our cameras were also let inside a Sentry counterterrorism meeting, which brought together over 100 police departments from the northeast.
There were special guests there from departments in Washington, London and Los Angeles, where Bratton last served as police commissioner.
