WASHINGTON — Mel Brooks is blazing the trail to the polls in a race for state Assembly.
The famous funnyman’s iconic voice reached 20,000 households this week in a robocall touting his great-nephew, Democrat Todd Kaminsky, who is running for an open seat on Long Island.
“Hello, this is Mel Brooks,” the recorded message begins. “Yes — it really is Mel Brooks!”
Kaminsky, a former prosecutor, led the federal case against Rep. Michael Grimm, the Staten Island Republican who is poised to win re-election Tuesday despite a 20-count indictment.
Grimm faces fraud and tax evasion charges stemming from a restaurant he once owned in Manhattan.
Kaminsky is going up against Republican Avi Fertig in Long Beach.
Brooks boasts of his nephew’s qualifications with a comedic twist: “I’ve known him since he was born, and aside from a few allergies, which you can’t fault him for, he is bright — which runs in our family — and incredibly principled — which does NOT always run in our family.”“You fire all your guns in a competitive election,” Evan Thies told The Post.
