Police say a man is in the hospital after being shot by police in Brooklyn—after he jumped into the back seat of an unmarked patrol car.
Police say it happened just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Nostrand Avenue and Avenue D in East Flatbush.
Police say the 25-year-old man hopped into the back seat of the car and started fighting with one of the officers sitting in the front passenger’s seat.
He then allegedly got hold of the officer’s gun and exited the vehicle.
An officer assigned to a foot post as well as two other officers responded to the scene.
The officers allegedly saw the suspect with the gun and commanded he drop his weapon. The suspect then shot the gun, as did the officer on foot patrol and one of the uniformed officers. One of the plain-clothes officers from the unmarked police car also approached and shot at the suspect.
Police say the suspect was shot in the torso and the lower leg. They say the man is in critical but stable condition at Kings County Hospital.
No officers were shot, but four were taken to the hospital to be checked out, and have since been released.
The incident is still under investigation.
