NYPD Officer Injured by Ax-Wielding Man in Queens


Police say one person is in custody after an officer in Queens was hit in the head with an ax this afternoon.


The incident took place around 2 p.m. near Jamaica Avenue and 162nd Street.


The officer has been rushed to the hospital and is expected to survive.


It’s still unclear how serious the injury is.


Sources tell NY1 police shot and killed the person wielding the ax.


Another officer was on the scene but was not injured.


NY1 has a crew headed to the scene and will have more information as it becomes available.
