A Queens woman has been arrested for beating her 4-year-old daughter to death inside the homeless shelter where they lived and then lying about how the child was hurt, cops said.
Latoya Curry, 35, was busted Friday night for the murder of her daughter Linayjah Meraldo, 4, who was pronounced dead at the Briarwood Family Residence early Thursday afternoon, cops said.
The city Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide and said the girl died of blunt force injuries to her torso, according to a spokeswoman.
Before her arrest Curry lied to police about the events leading up to the child’s death, police sources said.
She told police that Meraldo got in a fight with her 5-year-old sister Wednesday night that left the younger girl with a bruised face, the sources said.
The mother also claimed to cops that she decided to keep Meraldo home from day care the next morning because the child woke up with stomach pains and a fever, the sources said.
A maintenance worker stopped by Thursday morning and saw the girl playing with toys. It was less than two hours later that, the mother said, she called out to the girl, got no answer and then discovered her lying unconscious on the floor, the sources said.
