Fire officials are investigating a two-alarm fire that broke out Wednesday morning inside a Brooklyn apartment building.
Officials say the blaze started just after 8:30 a.m. on the fourth floor of the building located at 781 Washington Avenue in Prospect Heights.
Four firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the flames.
Residents who spoke with NY1 say they worried about safely evacuating the building’s mostly senior citizen community.
“A lot of senior citizen people live in the building and you know, people are asleep, it’s still early in the morning. So it was frightening, but the firemen did a good job and got it under control real quick,” said one resident.
“It was very scary to me. When I heard, ‘Fire, fire, get out!’ My stomach started to ache. It was the fright I guess,” said another resident.
Fire officials say there are still some hot spots, but the fire is under control.
