Joan Rivers’ official cause of death has been released.
The New York City Medical Examiner’s office says Rivers’ brain was deprived of oxygen during an endoscopy procedure to evaluate changes in her voice and acid reflux.
Medical officials say her death was a “predictable complication” of the routine procedure.
Rivers died on September 4, one week after she checked into an Upper East Side outpatient clinic.
She was 81-years-old.
Dr. Lawrence Cohen, the medical director of clinic where Rivers went into cardiac arrest, stepped down following her death last month.
