Model riding bike is brain-dead after crashing into bus

A Swedish model was hit by a bus in New York City — and is brain dead in a hospital, according to law enforcement sources and Swedish media.

Anna Maria Mostrom, 29, was bicycling on Main St. without a helmet last Wednesday when she crashed into the bumper of a bus making a left turn, police said. Mostrom fell and suffered serious brain injuries as she hit the pavement.

Family and friends have been by her side at New York-Presbyterian, where she’s listed in critical condition.

“She was rammed off the bus and the damage was so severe that she is brain dead,” her father Ronny Mostrom told the Swedish newspaper, Aftonbladet. “We can hope for a miracle, but the doctors said there is no realistic chance.”

The blonde beauty has already undergone two surgeries, according to the newspaper. Her prognosis is “bleak” and doctors say she likely won’t wake up, her father added.

The family will have to decide whether to take her off a ventilator early this week. They’ve already chosen to donate her organs, according to Swedish media.

The 51-year-old bus driver stayed at the scene after the accident and has not been charged, police said.

Mostrom has been modeling in New York City for the past two years. Her big break came as a contestant on the Swedish edition of “Top Model” in 2005.
