The city medical examiner on Friday said more tests are needed in the investigation into the death of comedienne and New York native Joan Rivers.
Rivers, 81, went into cardiac arrest on Thursday while undergoing outpatient throat surgery.
State officials are investigating the practice that performed the procedure.
Rivers died on Thursday after spending time in the intensive care unit at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Her daughter Melissa says she was surrounded by friends and family.
Rivers’ funeral is being planned for Sunday at Temple Emanu-el in Manhattan.
Meantime, tributes thanking the Brooklyn-born comic for years of laughter and smiles have filled the steps outside of her Upper East Side apartment.
Amid the fans and neighbors who came by to leave a note or take a picture Friday, daughter Melissa Rivers emerged. She stopped briefly to look at the spontaneous outpouring then rushed into a car without speaking to reporters.
Residents who live in and work in Rivers’ neighborhood say she will be remembered as a great lady.
“She was great. When she was being real. She was very gracious and very grateful for what she had. And it’s a real loss. It’s a real loss. She was funny and lovely,” said one Upper East Side resident.
“I loved Joan Rivers. She used to come to my stand to eat all the time. She was a good neighbor. She was always funny she would always give me presents. She was very nice. God bless her soul,” said one Upper East Side vendor.
In true Joan Rivers fashion, after bypassing the media, Melissa Rivers later had pizza and water brought out to all news crews, delivered by her assistants and the door man.
This is something that Joan would have loved. She’s done it in the past, she loves the media. She loved you guys and this is exactly what she would have wanted,” said Doorman Max Iaccarino.
