NYPD copter rescues man who had heart attack aboard ship

A man was rescued by an NYPD helicopter after he went into cardiac arrest aboard a ship off the coast of Breezy Point, Queens, Thursday, cops said.

The 47-year-old victim was receiving CPR aboard the dredging vessel when the cops lowered a rescue basket to the ship and pulled him up to the chopper at around 1:35 p.m., according to police.

Initially, his crewmates tried to resuscitate him until the Coast Guard and FDNY Marine Units boarded the ship to assist the rescue. The helicopter took him to Staten Island University Hospital, where he was in stable condition.

“Chest compressions were administered the entire time, all the way up in the basket, and on the helicopter,” police said in a statement.
