A man went into cardiac arrest aboard a ship off the coast of Breezy Point and was miraculously revived after being air lifted to a hospital Thursday, officials said.
The 47-year-old crew member on a dredging vessel, which excavate sand and sediments from the bottom of the sea and transport them, went into cardiac arrest around 1:35 p.m., the NYPD said.
The ship was four miles south of Breezy Point, Queens, when the Coast Guard, FDNY Marine Units, and NYPD Harbor responded to an alert for help, officials said.
The crew administered CPR while FDNY sent medical personnel on board the vessel, a Coast Guard spokesman said.
A NYPD rescue helicopter dropped a bucket down to the patient.
“Chest compressions were administered the entire time, all the way up in the basket, and on the helicopter,” police said.
They arrived to Staten Island University South at 2:05 p.m. where he was listed in critical condition and had a pulse, the Coast Guard said.
