The man behind the wheel of a double decker bus that crashed in Times Square over the summer is cleared of any wrong-doing.
William Dalambert, 58, was arrested immediately after the August accident on suspicion of driving while impaired.
Investigators soon said his toxicology reports were negative, however, and now they say Dalambert may have actually saved lives.
A spokesman for the Manhattan District Attorney says a mechanical problem made the bus lurch forward, and Dalambert actually managed to steer it away from a crowded sidewalk.
The district attorney says the case is now closed.
More than a dozen people were injured in the crash—some by a toppled traffic-light pole—but none of the injuries was serious.
