Famed Dominican fashion designer Oscar de la Renta has died at the age of 82.
According to multiple media reports, de la Renta died at his home in Kent, Connecticut. He’d been battling cancer since 2006.
In a post on Instagram, de la Renta’s publicist, Lisette Trepaud, mourned his death.
Trepaud wrote in Spanish: ” Today my adored friend, my mentor, my confidante, my best and biggest adviser and protector begins the most important journey of his life…he begins his return to God!! Today is the saddest day of my life…”
De La Renta was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic in 1932.
He became one of the most famous fashion designers of the 20th century, dressing Jackie Kennedy, and later Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama. He also designed for many of the world’s biggest celebrities including Audrey Hepburn, Cameron Diaz, Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey, Kristen Stewart, Penelope Cruz, and more recently, Amal Clooney.
