MTA’s East Side Access Finish Date Pushed Back as Cost Soars

It’s going to take a little longer for the Long Island Rail Road to make it to Manhattan’s east side.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority has pushed back the completion date for the East Side Access project four years to 2023.

The project to bring the Long Island Rail Road to Grand Central Terminal was originally set to be finished back in 2009, then was pushed back to August 2019.

The cost for the tunnel has also ballooned by $ 6.5 billion, bringing the current price tag to $ 11 billion.

When completed, East Side Access is expected to bring an estimated 160,000 Long Island Rail Road commuters to Grand Central each day.
