At least 17 pedestrians have been killed on city streets so far this year.

A vigil for safer streets was held Sunday at the Queens intersection where a woman was killed by a bus a year ago.

Family, neighbors and pols marked the anniversary of the death of Ella Bandes, 23, who was run down at the intersection of Wyckoff Ave., Palmetto St., and Myrtle Ave. in Ridgewood.

“It’s heartbreaking that this many people are dying on our streets. It’s a walking, biking city and drivers don’t pay attention. Everyone is always in such a hurry,” said Bandes’ mother, Judy Kottick, 58, vowing to keep pushing the city to make design changes to the intersection … because losing your child is the worst thing in the entire world. … We don’t want anyone else to go through this.”

After a spate of traffic fatalities, to kick off the new year, Mayor de Blasio has vowed to pursue an aggressive plan to reduce deaths, and families of those killed in crashes have stepped up their activism on the issue. At least 18 pedestrians have been killed on city streets this year.
