Rangers Top Devils in First Outdoor Game at Yankee Stadium

Mats Zuccarello had two goals and Marc Staal had a goal and an assist as the New York Rangers topped the New Jersey Devils 7-3 Sunday in the first outdoor game played at Yankee Stadium.

Henrik Lundqvist made 19 saves for the Rangers, who were playing in their first of two regular-season games this week at the Stadium.

The Rangers trailed 3-2 after the first period before Zuccarello tied the game with a goal less than three minutes into the second period.

Zuccarello then notched a second goal with a little more than seven minutes remaining in the second to break the tie, and teammates Carl Hagelin and Rick Nash followed with goals of their own to give the Rangers a 6-3 lead by the end of the period.

The Rangers’ Derek Stepan converted a penalty shot in the third period for the final 7-3 margin.

Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur started the game and allowed six goals, the most he has ever allowed against the Rangers in his 21-season career. He was pulled from the game after the second period.

The start of the game was delayed by approximately an hour over concerns of sun glare on the ice.

The Rangers will play a second outdoor game at Yankee Stadium against the Islanders on Wednesday night.
