A crazed driver who cops fired at in the Bronx after he tried to mow them down in his minivan was slapped with a slew of charges including assault and drug possession, police said Wednesday.
Jason Henry, 39, of 975 Simpson St. in the Bronx allegedly failed to yield to a pedestrian at the corner of Morris Park Avenue and White Plains Road in the Van Nest section at about 5 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
When two officers tried to pull him over, Henry allegedly took off, hitting a parked car and prompting a police pursuit.
Cops opened fire on the suspect when he turned the Chrysler Town and Country he was driving around and drove at them.
Henry wasn’t hit, and then took off down Morris Park Avenue, where he crashed into a telephone pole.
“It was craziness out here,” said witness James Vargas. “There was a helicopter out here with a searchlight and everything. They really wanted to get this guy.”
Henry was taken into custody and 100 OxyContin pills were found in the vehicle, police said.
He was charged with possession of narcotics, reckless endangerment, vehicular assault, resisting arrest, weapons possession and driving under the influence of drugs, among others.
