A Brooklyn high school teacher who was already under indictment for sending a lewd photo to a student is now facing dozens of new charges.
Sean Shaynak, 44, was a math and science teacher at Brooklyn Tech.
Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson announced a new 36-count indictment against him Tuesday.
Thompson says the new charges come after investigators found evidence on Shaynak’s computer that he victimized six other teenage girls between 2011 and this year.
The new charges include kidnapping and criminal sexual act.
Shaynak faces up to 25 years in prison on the top charge.
Some Brooklyn Tech students who spoke with NY1 had a mixed reaction to the news.
“Everybody knew him. He was a nice guy too, really friendly with the kids also. I’m actually shocked something like this would have happened,” said one student.
“Pretty cool guy, really friendly. We talked about computers once. He gave me some advice on it. But I’m not really surprised to hear what happened. I hear these sort of rumors sometimes,” said another student.
In a statement, the Education Department pointed out that Shaynak was reassigned immediately after his initial arrest and would not have any more contact with students.
