NYC investigating how teacher accused of sex abuse was hired

The special schools investigator is looking into how a man who choked and battered an 11-year-old boy in 2005 was hired three years later as a teacher at Brooklyn Tech HS, where he’s now accused of sexually abusing female students.

Special Commissioner Richard Condon confirmed Friday that his office has opened an investigation into the hiring of Sean Shaynak, a math and science teacher who was arrested in August after he allegedly sent a photo of his private parts of a female student.

A subsequent probe determined that Shaynak had improper relations with at least seven teen female students the the prestigious high school, authorities said.

Education officials acknowledged that a backround check had turned up Shaynak’s arrest in Maryland in 2005.

But there was no conviction in the case and he was hired.

Shaynak has been suspended, but is still collecting his $ 52,744 salary.
