Ambulances No Longer Being Diverted from Interfaith Medical Center

A spokesperson for Interfaith Medical Center says that ambulances are once again transporting patients to Brooklyn’s struggling Interfaith Medical Center after they were temporarily diverted Friday afternoon.

The spokesperson tells NY1 that the head of medicine has requested that patients come to the emergency department.

The hospital’s CEO reached out to EMS officials Friday afternoon, asking them for the diversion, a spokesperson for Interfaith told NY1.

NY1 is told that administrators from Interfaith are waiting for the financial lifeline that Cuomo administration officials promised in order to keep the Bedford-Stuyvesant hospital operational through March 7.

Just before Christmas, a bankruptcy judge was set to rule on a closure plan for the hospital, but state officials stepped in, allocating $ 8 million to keep it running.

The Interfaith spokesperson told NY1 that while they are still waiting for the full amount, they thought it was best to have ambulances continue to deliver people to Interfaith.

NY1 has reached out to state officials for comment.
