Chirlane McCray, New York City’s First Lady, spoke about black immigration at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn on Wednesday — her first public appearance without husband Bill de Blasio since he became Mayor.
New York City First Lady Chirlane McCray made her debut as a solo act Wednesday — appearing at a public forum without her husband for the first time since he became mayor.
Speaking about black immigration at the Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, Mayor de Blasio’s wife discussed being descended from immigrants from Barbados.

“Everyone needs to know their history,” she said.
She added that she was putting together a family tree for the couple’s two kids, Chiara and Dante.

McCray didn’t stay for the panel discussion or take questions from reporters after her brief speech.
