Dog escapes plane, bolts across Newark runway

A dachshund briefly escaped from a plane at Newark airport Wednesday night and ran across the runway before being captured, sources said.

The German wiener dog escaped from a Lufthansa flight around 7:30 p.m. and was quickly trapped by airport workers.

The airport’s emergency service unit cornered the dachshund by a fence on the airfield and brought it to safety, according to PA spokesman Ron Marsico.

The owner of the dachshund was then let off the Lufthansa plane. The pet immediately ran to them, Marsico said.

It was not clear if there were any disruptions due to the getaway dog.
