Downtown Brooklyn bursting with new construction

Downtown Brooklyn, get ready to meet your new neighbors — all 3,700 of them. A few of them are going to be looking down on you.


Thousands of new apartments — the vast majority of them market rate — are currently rising up in the revitalizing downtown district, essentially doubling the number of apartments available in the neighborhood.

Some 3,300 market-rate units are in construction, along with 419 affordable units, the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership reports.


Among the market rate buildings is 388 Bridge St., a sleek tower that, at 53 stories and 575 feet high, surpasses the current borough record-holder, the Brooklyner — which stands at 512 feet, according to city records.

In its report, released last week, the Partnership highlighted the $ 400 million the city has invested in downtown’s infrastructure since 2006.
