Eight people were hurt after a fire broke out in a Brooklyn high-rise Friday afternoon.
Fire officials say they were called to the Brownsville building just after 4 p.m.
Authorities say none of the injuries are life-threatening, and they say that at least two police officers were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Sioly Ramirez told NY1 that she and her seven children were home when the fire began in their 12th-floor apartment.
“We start running to go take all my kids out the room, the house,” the woman said. “I lose everything, but I don’t lose my life. I don’t lose my kids’ life.”
The 22-story building is fireproof.
The Housing Authority said that Ramirez and her family will be housed by the Red Cross until Tuesday morning, and then, the New York City Housing Authority will provide housing until repairs are made to the apartment.
