MTA Says Human Error to Blame for Metro-North Power Outage

Human error is being blamed for the Metro-North service disruption that left commuters stranded for up to two hours last night.

Officials say a work crew making electrical repairs accidentally caused the problem.

The Thursday night power outage caused significant delays after a computer system that controls all of Metro-North’s train movements went down. For about two hours, the outage brought Metro-North to a standstill.

The problem suspended service on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines.

All inbound trains were brought to a stop at their nearest station, allowing customers to get off.

Power was restored a few hours later and trains started moving again.

“I work in White Plains and it took about two hours to commute back to Grand Central. So, I mean, two hours and a half-an-hour delay on a 35-minute commute is a lot more than what I expected,” said one commuter.

Metro-North says all trains had light and heat for those who chose to stay on board.
