Icy conditions are being blamed for a multi-car pile up Sunday morning that briefly closed down part of the Staten Island Expressway.
The city fire department says six vehicles were involved in the accident at around 9 a.m.
One person was sent to Staten Island University Hospital with injuries.
The city’s Sanitation Department says they were laying down salt on the road prior to the accident.
Eastbound lanes were closed between exits 13 and 14 but have since reopened.
Drivers are being urged to use caution on wet roads as temperatures hover around the freezing mark.
