Queens Man Accused of Murdering Family Denied Bail

The man accused of killing his wife and two young daughters was denied bail at his arraignment on Friday.

Miguel Mejia-Ramos, 29, was arraigned on a slew of charges including first and second degree murder.

He did not enter a plea.

The family of Deisy Garcia was also in court, but they did not speak.

Her Aunt told NY1 she received a call from a frightened Garcia before the incident.

“My sister called us and told us that something was happening there. I ran over quickly since I live nearby. And, when I arrived, the police had arrived too and I could see the body overturned by the door and the girls were there too,” said Evelinda Alvarado through a translator.

Mejia-Ramos was caught in Texas, where authorities say he was trying to get to the Mexican border.

Prosecutors say he allegedly went into a rage after seeing a picture of Garcia with another man on Facebook.

Investigators claim he hugged his kids before stabbing them.

“When asked why it is that he killed the children, he alleged to have said because he didn’t have car seats to take them with him. So as I say, I mean, it’s just a terribly tragic and sad and a disturbing case,” said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

Officials in Texas say he initially blamed his wife for the crime and then began to change his story.

The case is set to go to a grand jury on January 29.

Garcia had reported two incidents of domestic violence to police in the past, but her husband was never arrested.

The Guatemalan Consulate is paying for the victims’ bodies to be flown to Guatemala for burial.
