It’s freezing cold, there’s snow on the ground, and it’s the perfect time for some hockey at Yankee Stadium.
Later today, the Rangers will play the Devils in the first of two upcoming NHL games being played at the home of one of baseball’s most storied franchises.
The Rangers also play the Islanders on Wednesday night.
On Saturday, players got to practice on the ice for the first time, and they don’t seem to mind the open environment.
“It’s different, but it was nice to get in here today, kind of take everything in, get kind of familiar with everything and get comfortable,” said Devils forward Adam Henrique. “But once tomorrow comes, it’s just going to be another game.”
“The ice was good. It was hard, but when it gets pretty cold, it gets chipped up a little bit,” said Devils forward Michael Ryder. “I think the ice crew, they’ll manage with that tomorrow.”
“You don’t get a chance, you know, with cold toes and runny noses, that was hockey growing up,” said Devils forward Ryan Carter. “It’s been years since I felt those things, so it will be fun to get back and have those feelings again and remember hockey as a kid and playing outside.”
Today’s game will be the first hockey game played at Yankee Stadium.
The puck drops at 12:30 p.m.
